How does play fit into your fitness?

hoops, ping pong balls, and a bucket

Here is some workout “equipment” you might see during a Bliss Fitness class. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Maybe these are not your typical fitness accessories, but we are not your typical gym. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sometimes we take a detour from traditional programming and venture into territory that explores skills like:

⏱ Reaction time⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

?‍♀️ Coordination ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

? Creative problem solving⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

〽️ Moving around in unpredictable patterns ⠀⠀

? Feeling joyful⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

? Feeling playful⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

? Collaborating and connecting with your classmates (and deepening that accountability that keeps us coming back)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In a recent class, students were tasked with moving the balls from inside the hula hoop to the blue bucket across the room. Balls had to be transported using the cups. The twist: they could not use their hands. ⠀⠀⠀

It was really fun to watch the unique ways they came up with to achieve this task – agilely picking up ping pong balls with their toes, crab walking a cup full of balls across the room, using elbows to transport cups…and 8 people achieved this collaborative task in a swift 2 minutes and 46 seconds! It required communication and partnership to achieve this so quickly and efficiently. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you’re curious to try a fitness class that breaks the rules a little and grants permission to play, come check us out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But don’t worry, there will still be burpees ;)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
